The Thermo Scientific Orion 8302BNUMD ROSS Ultra pH electrode is a double-junction, combination electrode with a glass body, a built-in temperature sensor compatible with Star series meters, a glass fiber junction, and BNC and 8-pin Mini-DIN connectors. ROSS pH electrodes are designed to allow the user to change the fill solution, depending on the sample requirements, and can be used on any pH meter with a BNC or U.S. standard connection. The electrodes have a waterproof Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) connection with a 1 m (39") cable and 8-pin Mini-DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) connector. They also have a patented internal reference to minimize drift and equilibrium time. The Orion Ultra electrodes come with an extended warranty to 24 months, while typical electrode warranties are 3 to 12 months.
The mercury and silver-free double-junction reference system separates the sample from contact with silver ions, which prolongs electrode life and allows electrode use with samples containing silver complexing or binding agents such as tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (TRIS or THAM), proteins, and sulfides. Glass body electrodes are useful in highly corrosive environments where epoxy could be corroded, or around proteins and other compounds with high surface tension. This electrode is frequently used for research and quality assurance applications.
pH range is 0 to 14 (+ or - 0.01), temperature range is 0 to 100 degrees C (+ or - 1 degree C) and body dimensions are 120 mm long x 12 mm deep. The electrode uses 3M KCl fill solution. Buffer and storage solutions are sold separately.
pH electrodes are used in pH meters and testers to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. They are often constructed of glass, which senses hydrogen ions, and generates a millivoltage that is picked up by the filling solution and transferred to a wire that connects to the pH meter.
