She was a mighty force in rhythm and blues who left us way too soon; the soul-stirring Etta James sang her last in early 2012. To pay tribute, a concerned Portlander began calling in favors to assemble a musical team to not only honor the great lady of R&B, but to raise funds for a fallen musician, blues chanteuse Candye Kane, to help battle cancer. The result is this stunning collection, The Tell Mama Etta James Tribute, which captures the April 1st, 2012, evening of music and celebration. Led by pianist/vocalist DK Stewart and his powerful sextet, five of Portland, Oregon s most soulful and talented vocalists roared through 14 prime Etta James cuts. Joining Stewart and company onstage were Lisa Mann, Amy Keys, LaRhonda Steele, Rae Gordon and Duffy Bishop - all highly regarded vocalists and musicians in the Pacific Northwest. From Mann s rendition of the classic Sunday Kind of Love, Keys rollicking Roll With Me Henry, and Steele s Come to Mama, to Gordon s Good Rockin Daddy and Bishop s Tell Mama, with a group finale of At Last, the night was a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
