The flaps open very nicely,and lay nearly flat.The rolled edge on the bottom flap helps prevent watercolor mixes from dribbling off the palette.

Installation Instructions:
The pans click tightly into the tracks.To get the pans to stay in the tray, bend the individual upright pieces of metal slightly inwards to middle of the tray and the pans will lock into place.
