Description

Imentet was a goddess of the West (the symbol for West is above her head), and specifically, of the tombs built west of the Nile. Because of this she is often depicted in tombs, as a gatekeeper who welcomes the dead to the afterlife. She eventually became associated with Isis and Hathor as well, in their roles as goddesses of the dead. Ra, with the staff, ankh, and solar disk above his head, had many forms. Here he is a hawk-headed man, though he was sometimes depicted as a beetle, ram or serpent. The serpent coiling around his sun-disk is his particular protector. The staff, called a "was" scepter represented power and dominion. It was commonly depicted being held by kings and gods.
