The axe head is pierced with a special punch to form ribs horizontally and vertically inside the eye, creating more contact area between the head and handle and resulting in a more durable tool. The Dayton patterned head features somewhat thicker cheeks although slightly convex. This feature, combined with a sharp edge, means a deeper bite without sticking, and each axe is hand sharpened to fit a gauge, ensuring consistency. This Council Tool axe is a great mid-sized tool for camping, carrying in a vehicle and at home - small enough to split kindling for the cook stove yet big enough to fell a tree.
